The Institut Escola La Mina and the BeatSchool project feature in a report on RTVE about educational and cultural transformation
On 21st November 2024, RTVE’s programme La aventura del saber dedicated an emotional report to the transformative work of the Institut Escola La Mina and the innovative BeatSchool project, promoted by the Fundació Primavera Sound. In a context in which education and culture play a fundamental role in social development, this project is presented as an example of how music and technology can be powerful tools to foster creativity and teamwork among young people.
Located in the Sant Adrià de Besòs neighbourhood of Barcelona, Institut Escola La Mina has managed to deal with the problems of truancy and poor academic results that had affected the area for many years. Through a holistic approach involving families, the community and sport, the school has achieved resounding success, with all its primary students moving on to secondary school and over six hundred students enrolled in its various educational projects.
The BeatSchool project, initiated together with the Fundació Primavera Sound, aims to bring young people closer to musical creation through digital tools. In collaboration with Ableton, 5th and 6th grade students at Institut Escola La Mina are learning to use digital audio workstations (DAW) to produce their own music. With the supervision of teacher Daniel Madjody, co-founder of the collective El Bloque, and artist Tuna Pase, who also participates as a teacher, BeatSchool offers a simple and stimulating methodology that allows students to explore music as a form of creative expression connected to modern technologies.
The RTVE report highlighted the importance of this project in the educational context of the Institut Escola La Mina, where art and music have become drivers of change. In addition, special emphasis was placed on the positive impact the programme has on self-esteem and the development of emotional and social skills among the participants. The young people not only learn to make music, but also to strengthen their ability to work as a team, express themselves and find their own voices.
This report is part of a broader approach to the educational and cultural projects that the Fundació Primavera Sound supports, which seek to generate a positive social impact in local communities. With initiatives such as BeatSchool, the Fundació not only contributes to educational development, but also strengthens links with the community, offering young people opportunities for learning and personal growth through music and culture.
