Create Your Own Festival

A music festival is, among many other things, a seed that is planted in the city that hosts it. It is of course the seed of future bands, of future artists, who will eventually follow the path of those musical projects that have inspired others to form their own. In the same way as it is often said that everyone who bought the Velvet Underground record started a band, a festival like Primavera Sound is also an unparalleled creative driving force.

And there are also those who look at the work of other key players to make an event like this possible. Because inspiration can also come from behind the scenes. That is the spark that the students who are taking part in Crea el teu propi festival, an initiative of Primavera Sound in collaboration with three secondary schools in Barcelona to train the next generation of the music industry, have started to feel. After last year’s successful pilot programme at the Barri Besòs Secondary School, this year’s programme includes students from the Vall d’Hebron Secondary School and the Institute of Audiovisual and Performance Techniques of Barcelona, with the support of the Consorci d’Educació de Barcelona.

On Friday 27th October, students from the three schools were welcomed by Alberto Guijarro, co-director of Primavera Sound, to this series of classes which will take place at the schools themselves and at the Primavera Sound facilities in the Poblenou neighbourhood of Barcelona. Under the supervision of the teachers Blanca Gallo (head of the ESEM-Taller de Músics management and production degree and teacher of the master’s degree in arts and music centre management, as well as manager and organiser of musical events) and Laya Martí (musician, actress and music management and training professional), Crea el teu propi festival will be executed as a subject with its own identity at the three secondary schools. This is a modern teaching model in line with the reality of our music industry.

Over 25 sessions, with topics ranging from communication to production, booking and logistics for two hours a week, Crea el teu propi festival will act as a meeting point for young people with different industry professionals before they create their own real festival at their schools to apply all the knowledge they have acquired in a practical way. A course that will have the most appropriate finale: a guided tour at the end of May in the middle of the preparations for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2025.
